United Brass Model 363 Continuous Blowdown Valve

Additional Information

Keep Boiler Water Clean with Minimal Loss

Continuous Blowdown (CBD) valves — also called surface blowdown valves — continuously remove concentrated water from the boiler surface to control dissolved solids and maintain steam quality.

Intermittent Blowdown (IBD) valves, located at the bottom of the boiler, remove heavier sediment. Both work together to keep boiler water clean and protect the system.

How CBD Valves Work:

  • CBD valves drain from the surface where salt concentration is highest, replacing it with clean feed water. This keeps salinity and alkalinity in check, improves steam quality, and minimizes water and heat loss — typically less than 1% of evaporation volume.
  • Using flash tanks and heat exchangers allows recovery of valuable heat energy. Regular valve adjustments help maintain ideal boiler water chemistry.
