Tankless coils are finned copper heat exchangers installed inside heating boilers to produce domestic hot water. As cold water flows through the coil, it is heated by the surrounding boiler water, delivering hot water on demand.
Common in oil- and some gas-fired boiler systems—especially in colder climates—these units eliminate standby heat loss since water is heated only when needed, though they are generally less efficient than newer water heating methods.
