EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) gage glass washers are designed to form a reliable seal between the gauge glass and the gauge body in water level and steam applications. Commonly used in boiler sight glass assemblies, these washers help prevent leaks and maintain accurate water level readings. EPDM provides excellent resistance to water, steam, acids, and alkalis, and performs within a temperature range of -65 °F to +350 °F. However, it is not recommended for use with oils, hydrocarbons, or solvents.
Before installation, all sealing surfaces should be inspected and cleaned to remove any scale, corrosion, or pitting that may affect sealing performance. Washers should be replaced whenever the gauge glass is changed to ensure continued reliability. For best storage results, keep washers in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight to preserve their elasticity and sealing integrity.
