The fireside fusible plugs listed here are essential safety components for steam boilers. Installed between the fireside and waterside of the boiler’s plate, flue, or tube, they feature a pure-tin core designed to melt at 445 °F – 450 °F, serving as a critical thermal safety valve.
When boiler water levels drop dangerously low and the plug rises out of the water, the core melts. This triggers a rapid release of steam into the firebox — loud enough to alert operators — and helps extinguish the fire before the boiler’s crown sheet overheats, greatly reducing the risk of catastrophic failure.
